Fort Stanford built in the 1860's like other Palmerston Forts. Constructed over the site of Civil War Royalist seige works. 26 gun positions manned by 200 men. Reduced to 8 guns in 1893. De-armed in 1904. Sold in 1963 and converted into a caravan park.
