The treatment of students from this office is appalling. They kicked every resident out of St. Anselm Hall while some students were still living in the hall and others were set to move in merely two weeks. This decision was made unilaterally, without consulting members of the hall. When the accommodation office was pressed about increasing instability mere weeks before the beginning of uni during a pandemic--an already incredibly stressful time--the accommodation office simply said students had no choice and had to accept the closure of the hall. TL;DR This accommodation office does not care about offering you housing stability--and especially not during a pandemic. Be ready to move out at a moment's notice when they want a quick boost in money, because a paycheck is all you will ever be to them.

my friend who live in slems got kicked out and the accom office has been really horrible about it. the fact that the uni is willing to get rid of 100 yrs of history just to make some money just doesnt sit right.

They are a disgrace to the prestigious University of Manchester. Extremely student-unfriendly. Highly bureaucratic & inefficient. Don't believe in what they say on their websites. After receiving your money, when there are problems with your accommodation, they would not care. (They might send you some bureaucratic replies, but there is seldom any real action taken. Their websites are only to polish their public image.). Every email you send is replied by a different person, who seldom follows up your reported issues. (Again, they are just being bureaucratic) During the COVID lockdown, they closed all the resident offices. A lot of our parcels and letters were lost, and again they didn't care. They can retain such poor management because every year there are 1st year students who might not have other accommodation choices. So, they survive by exploiting 1st year students. Their rents are overpriced, in comparison with other student accommodations with even better quality. The hall/room allocation process is another joke. Very slow and lack of transparency. They have the keys to our rooms. The accommodation staff often just come to our rooms for some 'checking' without prior notification, which invades our privacy. It happened even during the COVID lockdown! Sometimes, they even confiscate our personal items (non-dangerous, legal items) when we are not in the rooms, and leave notes that we may only get them back at the end of year when we move out! They always 'complain' that they are receiving a high volume of emails from students.The high volume of emails are mostly due to their incompetence in resolving the real problems in our accommodations, but sadly, they often turn it into an excuse for their inefficiency.

I've never seen incompetence like I have seen from the reception and maintenance team at Grove House. The staff clearly have had no training in how to speak to people, and couldn't run a bath, never mind a university. I have lived in 3 different halls, whilst doing undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and never have I experienced such woeful staff.

Extremely slow accomodation team. They haven't allocated accomodation for me even though I am an early application and qualify for guranteed accomodation. Only 10 days until my university course starts and heard nothing from them yet.
