I have known Nikki for awhile. When I got pregnant I knew I wanted to have her there as our Doula. She spent a lot of time with us throughout the pregnancy in our sessions giving us information, talking us through options and procedures. I think one of her strengths is in that she provided us with all options and information and then supported us in the decisions we wanted to make for our birth. She came to the hospital at the start of my induction and since my labour was progressing slowly we decided she would go to give my husband and I time together. We called her when things started to ramp up and she came back and stayed with us until after our little one was born. She was a strong advocate for me with the midwives to be able to get in the shower to help my labour progress and help manage the intensity. She was encouraging and supportive and calming throughout the delivery. I also had Nikki do my placenta smoothies and capsules which I really loved. I never had that typical dip or blues in that first week after giving birth. This was my first birth so I have nothing to compare it to but I really believe that using my placenta was really beneficial for me. Nikki also provided great postnatal support and was happy to help answer breast feeding questions when we got home. I had an incredible support team including my husband, the midwives and Nikki. I was so happy to have a familiar face with us who provided help, support and care during such an important and amazing time in our lives. Thank you Nikki!

Doula support should be available to everyone, especially now during this uncertain time. Our second pregnancy has been full of unexpected twists and turns, yet Nikki stood by us throughout. Having somebody to send a message to after a midwife or hospital appointment and receive a reply almost immediately was part of why I kept going with a positive outlook, particularly during the lockdown months. All of our sessions were on Zoom or WhatsApp chat group so my partner was also involved. Thankfully we were able to meet Nikki in September prior to our baby being born and seeing her in person just affirmed why we chose to opt into private antenatal classes and Postnatal support. Birth support was always going to be tricky so we built our birth plans around my partner being my only advocate and without Nikki's input, I don't think he would have been up to it! He came through and used our birth plans how they were intended so moving from our \perfect\ plan to Plan B was an easy transition. We also had an Infant Feeding workshop due to a horrible time first time around which I wanted to avoid. This helped me to recognise the early signs of it feeding was going well or not and as it turns out, it wasn't! Nikki was on hand to answer questions and see us quickly after we arrived home to confirm we needed an IBCLC assessment too for check for tongue tie. Postnatal support has been a lifesaver, being able to nap for an hour after a night of feeding and grab a shower to come down to coffee and a snack is amazing. The flexibility, knowledge, patience and warmth that Nikki brings to our home is something we will miss a lot!

I think doulas are a really good idea but I wouldn't use Nikki again. She says she offers support for c-section births, breastfeeding and traumatic births but she did not offer these to us, when needed. If you have a straight forward, natural labour with no complications I think Nikki could be helpful. But if you have any complications we found her support and common sense vanished without a trace. We invited her into our birthing bubble and she let us down badly.

Nikki is a doula I have known for several years online and I have always admired her attitude and passion for women-centred care. I imagine any local woman would be very lucky to have her as their doula :)

Nikki was the second doula I’ve used. The first time around I had a wonderful older lady who had retired by the time I got pregnant again. Nikki was local to me and came recommended by a friend. Nikki seemed really nice in the meetings at my home but she seems to lack confidence in her own ability during the birth and unnecessarily antagonised the midwives - who were all lovely. It made me feel rather stressed to be honest, which didn’t help. My husband thought our first doula was a godsend but was underwhelmed by Nikki. Such a shame but we have a happy, healthy baby girl which is the most important thing!
