This is a fantastic building. English Heritage are going to be restoring this as it is now a Grade II listed building. The Chapel was designed by Sir John D Paul, Chairman of the General Cemetery Company and John Griffith in 1833 designed in a Greek Ionic style made with brick and Portland Stone. A wondrous piece of architecture in very peaceful surroundings.

This disintegrating Temple of Gloom, reassuringly sepulchral and stoical. Unadorned Classicism brooding over the Catacombs, crumble and collapse. Palpably evocative and enigmatic. A magnificent mature Copper beech tree next to temple adds colour to the bleached and austere surrounds.
