If you want to be taught technical perfection and can absorb it too then ATSE is really the only place to go, at least in the South East. However, if you are happy with a more informal level of technical knowledge and depth of learning then go anywhere else. To put it another way, if you want to become a Tango professional go to ATSE but if you want to be a perfectly respectable Tango dancer and just have fun (like 99% of the dancers out there) then go elsewhere. Also take yourself, regardless of level, to Milongas at every opportunity. That is when your learning will progress in leaps and bounds and become more creative than you can currently imagine. It's that or be stuck as a long term student, confident only around the people you know.

We don't understand the review by looloo bats 'Laura Jefferies'. We did a workshop with Jon and Sarah summer 2012 and it certainly made us love tango. It inspired us to carry on with them learning tango. We have been to private lessons and group classes, we always find the teaching excellent. Jon and Sarah are very friendly and welcoming. No other local teachers can dance as well, or have such good technique (we speak from experience!). We would say don't be put off, try their classes for yourself and you will love tango.

Decided to try and learn argentine tango after watching it danced on tv and wanting some gentle exercise. After a few false starts, found Jon and Sarah’s group lessons in Canterbury and I’m still dancing with them over 4 years later. For anyone wanting to learn tango, I can highly recommend Jon and Sarah. From the very first lesson, they made this wonderful social dance accessible with clear and thoughtful teaching. Without compromise, they want all their students to progress and feel confident about their dancing.

As a long term student with ATSE (and certainly not a ‘professional’) I’m somewhat confused by the recent review which seems to suggest that it is not possible to enjoy dancing Argentine Tango whilst being taught great technique by friendly and enthusiastic teachers. As a leader and a lover of Tango Nuevo, my aim is to interpret, create and improvise in response to my partner and to the music, so that together we create and enjoy a unique dance, avoiding stale, meaningless repetition. Perhaps more so in Tango Nuevo than in any other form this does require a good level of understanding of Tango concepts and technique by both leader and follower, perhaps something the reviewer has yet to understand. In fact Jon & Sarah do provide classes, workshops and private lessons at all levels, tailored to the progress of the individual. Also there are fortnightly practicas open to all ATSE students, allowing dancers from recent beginners to those more advanced to dance together, something we all enjoy. So whether a complete beginner, or already on your Tango journey, do not be confused by the earlier review, whatever your Tango aspirations ATSE can, and will, help you develop and achieve your individual goals.
