Really lovely old church. Nice setting. Has a Commonwealth war grave, as well as the memorial to the heroine Grace Darling, native from the Farne Islands, who died tragically young only years after saving lives at sea. You can go into the smaller part of the church on the right. Inside there is a memorial to St Aidan who is said to have died leaning against the church. In 2013 the then Archbishop of York, John Sentamu, dedicated the memorial. You can also get a good view of this church if you cross the road and go into the Grace Darling Museum. If you go upstairs there is a large glass viewing window.

St Aidan's Church in Bamburgh originally stood on the same site as a wooden church, founded by Aidan in 635. He is said to have died at the church, leaning against a beam, in 651. The current church is a 12th century construction, with some pre-Conquest elements in the north aisle. The chancel is the second longest in the country and features Victorian reredos of 8th and 9th century Northern Saints. The church's crypt holds the remains of 110 people who died in the 7th and 8th century, originally buried in the castle's Bowl Hole graveyard. They were exhumed between 1998 and 2007 and reinterred in individual boxes the crypt
