A giant sloping treadmill you can ski on! Not quite like skiing on snow but definitely good exercise. Ski edge control seemed to be crucial on the carpet like surface so should be great for improving technique.

My wife and I visited Skiplex in Basingstoke for my wife to learn how to ski and for me to progress from snow plough turns to parallel turns. My wife was moving on the surface by the end of our lesson with a good deal more confidence than when she had started and I had gone back to basics on how to perfect my plough turns before attempting a very clear and defined learning schedule for how to move to parallel turns. We both found it an amazing way to hone your technique in an entirely safe environment. We fell over, we made mistakes, but it was fine! Our instructor was fantastically knowledgeable, enthusiastic and patient and both of us came away with huge smiles on our faces, a lot more confident than we were when we arrived and a lot more enthusiastic about our next lessons. A brilliant way to learn how to ski.

Skiplex Basingstoke is fantastic, the location is ideal and the building it's self is amazing. I believe that Skiplex is the best place to ski in the UK. I am a fairly experience skier, I have spent a season in Canada where I qualified as an instructor, have worked at one of the largest dry ski slopes in Sheffield and skiied at indoor snow centres in the UK and Skiplex is by far the best place to go. I feel like a far better skier now, after a number of sessions at Skiplex than I did skiing everyday in Canada. The sessions are so personal, immediate feedback from the giant mirror you are facing and controllable speed and slope gradient. The rate of progression for first time skiers is simply unbeatable and for advanced skiers the ability to practice turn after turn and perfect your technique as well and being a great fitness tool. I couldn't recommend it enough, if you are sceptical you have to book a session and give it a go. The smartest way to prepare for a ski holiday.
