Expect the staff to be extremely rude. There is no warning for this bridge and the staff are well aware of this. When I asked why there is no warning I was told \the owners dont want signs as less people would use the bridge\. Basically they are deliberately preying on unsuspecting motorists. Be warned the operators of the bridge show little regard for the law, as they have in the past attempted to charge the army for passage, Contrary to the Army Act 2006 S349.

Yes, this is a proper toll bridge and you have to pay to cross it. Its not a great deal of money, it saves going the long way round. The staff are just doing their job, and they do it in all weathers. This is a beautiful part of the country and worth the 80p for a car to cross it.
Beautiful bridge with lovely views but very expensive for cars to cross at 1 each way.
No problem with paying the toll as there are similar bridges elsewhere, and as I understand it the money goes to the upkeep of the listed building nearby; so that really isn't an issue. My complaint is that as an individual not aware of the area, there is no prior warning that this is a toll bridge. Once you cross, you are a captive audience, which is a shock for most motorists and extremely irritating. Please add better signage!
Lovely old bridge with beautiful ambience and environs. I used to live in Batheaston so appreciated the time saving, thus happy to pay.
