What a wonderful spot! It’s free to enter and is over multiple levels which makes for a mild workout which is great. ITS A RUINS! So if you’re expecting a fully fledged standing castle then you will be disappointed! Just read before going? A place of strong history and connecting to the town of berkhamsted. You’ll also find things around the town dedicated to William Wallace. Very well maintained and a nice place for a picnic when there’s not a pandemic! Be careful of the water around the way as it can be missed.

Not a huge amount left of the castle but still interesting. Great to see a moat still present and lots of info describing what the castle looked like. Child friendly with large open area to run around within the walls. Lovely place for a wander or a picnic.

Great place for a walk around and a picnic in the summer, very interesting old castle to explore, good for kids they will love playing hide and seek amongst the ruins, their is a train station near by and limited free parking, also close to the grand Union canal, lovely walking along the canal and Berkhampstead is a very good place to visit, lovely pubs and restaurants in the area

Really surprised by how lovely this was! It's a great little outdoor space to explore. There isn't much left of the castle but it was beautiful for an autumn walk. It has a large green space and steps leading up to a view point.

A lovely site with parking next to a railway viaduct. Earthwork is greatly preserved, there are a few info tables about history and the whole area is quite well maintained. I like the walk around outer walls, great for thinking..
