Lift broken within days of my daughter moving into the 8th floor. Broken now for nearly 2 weeks. No resolution in sight and the person I spoke to was frankly not helpful and definitely not apologetic. This accommodation is expensive and I would steer clear

I haven't stayed here yet but they have treated students with complete contempt. We were told we were allowed to arrive on the 14th but they are now saying we can't arrive until the 19th. They have been very poor at communication and only are allowing us to book our slots a week before arriving as they give no consideration to students' needs, especially those coming from further afield. I have now missed out on the chance to book a ferry and will have to travel at completely inhospitable hours in the morning. I couldn't regret my choice to stay here more. I assumed as it was on the University of Birmingham website that we would be treated like other students in university accommodation but instead Host is only a money making machine, out for profit and with no consideration for the immense anxiety they have inflicted on students. I still don't know when I am arriving despite it being only 2 weeks away and me needing to travel over water to get here. Additionally, their prices are listed as weekly on the website but they only allow you to pay in 1 or 2 instalments for the whole year, as if you want to pay monthly you have to pay 800 extra for a private guarantor. I am disgusted and would strongly advise the University of Birmingham to never partner with Host again as at a time I should have been excitedly getting ready for university I have instead had to endure constant worry over being unable to book a ferry or hotel for my parents
