Another wonderful English Heritage property!! Smaller than most, but most of what's there is very well preserved. We went first thing and were the only people there for the first half hour. As you can see from my photo the weather was beautiful with undoubtedly enhanced our experience, but was wonderful regardless and we'll definitely be back!!

Fantastic site to visit. Good signage, close to Hadrian's Wall so you can combine with other sites, and very friendly staff. Nice and quiet when we visited, though there was a service about to begin in the chapel. Definitely worth a visit.
Interesting ruin of old Lanercost priory managed by English Heritage. Must book in advance to visit. Church open to anyone, rather austere but full of history of past 1000 years
Building is divided into two separate parts: the church part that is open and free to visit and the ruins of the priory that are now part of English Heritage which means you have to pay to visit. The church is plain and did not have a spiritual feeling about it. Outside the graves are in poor condition, the grass had grown very long then been roughly cut. Not a good experience. You can walk along the public footpath around the back of the ruins to see most of the site.
Lovely and quiet, In the middle of seemingly nowhere. Great place to pass the time
This is a wonderful building. I could not see inside because it was loked when I was there. It is impressive and well kept. I would like to visit when it is open up to the public.
Accidentally stumbled on this wonderful example of English heritage when visiting Hadrian's Wall (under 10 minutes between them). Unfortunately it was closed at the time of our visit however, it hosts an incredibly peaceful ground to walk around.
Nice place to visit, friendly knowledgeable lady on the door. Also nice cafe and shop on site
