We were delighted with the care and dedication from the staff that was given to Mum during her 3 weeks respite care at Avonmere, Downend last month. Lily entered in trepidation following an enforced move into care and feared the worst, but we are pleased and a very relieved family to find that she absolutely loved it. The staff were second to none, nothing was too much trouble for them whatever their position or rank, they all interacted with their visitors and made it home from home. I cannot name just a few, they were all a great team, worked extremely hard, long hours and from what we saw under great pressure. We cannot thank them enough. Mum came back home rejuvenated with a smile on her face and after the delicious vegetarian meals prepared for her, well nourished. From being alone hour after hour she enjoyed company, friendship, exercise classes and tried things she never believed she would even have liked participating in. She had the pleasure of being there for the Royal Wedding and had a lovely Royal tea party in a decorated room after much preparation of food, bunting, crowns made with the local school children who visited and tiaras or facinators constructed with the Carer's. The social events team were amazing with them all. I myself was celebrating a birthday, Mum was going to miss it, but no the staff allowed me the use of a beautiful private room where I with her two sons, great grandchildren and sister had a lovely spread laid on by them. It was a wonderful surprise for her and a most lovely relaxed day for me. Unfortunately a bad day for staff with lots to care for, always with care and a smile. Maybe a job to them, but saints in our book. Well done to all of you, hope to see you soon, we believe Mum is itching to come back. A well deserved 5*

It is with deep sadness to write this review. I had such high hopes for Avonmere and what they health care group would bring to the local Community. All I can now say is that Avery on the outside looks amazing but underneath the surface it is a very different story. The management are shocking, no support for staff that are working so hard, only interested in getting people through the door, happy to let others be in the fire line for their mistakes. The enthusiasm from staff is driven out of them by the long hours and no praise for the amazing job they do. A hotel with care - this is the Moto for Avonmere but couldn’t be further from the truth. Residents are sold a product that feels them with hope for their later stages of life but once they are through the door Avonmere does not deliver. No activities for the residents that stimulate and engage residents, memory care resident isolated and left bored, staff with no appropriate training to cater for residents needs, lack of equipment, management that have no respect from the staff. There are some staff at Avonmere that are fantastic and go above and beyond their job role from the moment they walk through the door to the moment they leave, their residents needs are top of their priority but sadly these staff are leaving as the demands on paperwork being completed take up so much of their time and they are then reprimanded when paperwork is not completed. The lack of support and praise from management leaves them thinking why do I bother. All I can say is I am very disappointed and would never put a loved one into Avonmere care home.

The home looks ready for opening. Very comfortable home and the cakes are excellent. Enjoyed visiting its first resident, the UK's second oldest man. Good to see you Ralph.
