A beautiful cathedral. Its tower which is of recent construction, is a jewel on the Bury St Edmunds skyline, so much so that though the tower has only been completed about 10 years ago, one can't imagine this beautiful town without the crown of its very fine cathedral tower. The cathedral is staffed by welcoming volunteers, it has sumptuous paintwork on the ceilings and a modren prayerful feel to its frabric. There is also a nice cafe in the gardens by the cloisters that are well worth a visit. The day i visited, so too was Michael Portillo.

Old Abbey feels magical while you stroll through touching stones which were built 1500 years ago. One of the most important benedictine Abbey in Europe stand there for many generations, one can feel how many people made important decisions in this place and live their life's watching those walls standing tall, indestructible but now we see them as ruins and new cathedral standing next-door. Mortar in between rocks crumbling away but stones stay untouched. Magnificent place. New cathedral just shows what humans can do when working together. Details of stained glass is mind-boggling one need to see to glimpse what sort of master work is required. Don't forget treasury relics.

Absolutely beautiful!! There was a stunning art installation which, along with very appropriate lighting, added a lovely atmosphere to the interior. Really friendly people there to help point the way and there is a large Lego project ongoing so I recommend popping in and adding a brick to it.

A large and interesting cathedral, very welcoming and no required entrance fee. Donations accepted even via contact less . There is a lego model being built currently with a donate a brick option to help build it and fund the cathedral.

Didn't realise how modern this cathedral is. Much of it renovated in the 1960s. Social distancing observed, one way round the aisles. Nice, peaceful visit. Good if it's raining.
