Buxton Opera House opened on Monday 1st July 1903 and is presently one of only 25 original Frank Matcham designed theatres still active. Matcham designed over 100 theatres between 1879 & 1912 and is regarded as one of the most important theatre architects of his time.

A beautiful place to visit, no matter what is on. An experience not to miss. This year's pantomime had the best ugly sisters ever. The prince sang like an angel. Wonderful!

The Opera House is worth a visit just to see the building! Great variety of shows (something for everyone) Buxton is also a lovely place to visit. We always stay overnight plenty of nice B&B's/Hotels. And lots of good places to eat.

Our one and only visit 9so far) was in February 2020 (just as COVID was beginning to take hold). We had tickets to see 'Fascintating Aida' We had a wonderful evening, the car park is in easy walking distance, there's a great pub over the road for food and a hotel nearby, though we didn't stay over. A brilliant show that we thrououghly enjoyed despite having tickets at the back of the 'gods' we could still see and hear the show perfectly. One small point concerning the refreshments - there is not enough room in the upstairs bar! Expect a long wait
