Off-grid, quiet and beautiful woodland location. We stayed in one of the yurts which was cosy and comfortable despite the spring storms. The communal kitchen and shelters are great spaces to meet other people staying on site and are incredibly well equipped - we had a lot of fun trying out the different types of wood fired cooking facilities. Loved the outdoors living - compost toilets, showers and even a bath in the woods !

We had an incredible week at Campwell. What a way to switch off (literally there's no signal and no electricity) and unwind! Our group stayed in the Chief's Den and the Shephard's Hut directly behind it but the rest of the accommodation and the shared facilities all looked first class too. We spent our days doing nothing, either by the lake or on our deck and our nights around the fire pit. Cooking on the wood-fired range stove was a dream and by the end of the week we were confident enough to use the pizza oven with great success! We complimented our stay with a massage each and a private yoga session with Jessica - something I'd recommend to everyone! Her massages were incredible and she's an amazing teacher for all abilities. Will was so helpful in showing us around, answering any queries and even making an excellent recommendation for breakfast on the day we checked out. I'll be back soon!
Campwell is fantastic. Driving down the little rough track to get there starts your experience. When we parked up we were met by Will who manages the site and showed us around. It is wonderful being in the woods amongst all the trees, watching the squirrels dashing about. The Chiefs Den is a semi permanent collection of yurts comprising of a sitting room, kitchen and two bedrooms with its own private bathroom. Everyone else stays in yurts or cabins which are all clean and cosy. The camp kitchen is an excellent place to socialise and the Eco-Zoom rocket stove and Pizza Oven are great fun to cook with. You will get grubby, You will get muddy, You will smell smoky, But it is worth it for the fun and laughter you will gain.
Accommocation exceeded all expectations -- this site is very deserving of its reviews. Insofar as camping goes, comfort was second to none. Heating provision in the cabins/yurts was more than adequate. Bedding was conveniently made up and nothing extra was required. Despite initial reservations about an ecological loo, it was fine. In fact, it was very intuitive to use and wasn't offensive to our typical sensibilities. Showers, located in the tree shack, worked a treat with good water pressure. Being able to shower whilst admiring the expansive views over the woods was a magical experience. The kitchen was rustic, but provided all cooking equipment and wares. The woodfired oven was a real centrepiece and overall, the kitchen provided a central location for fellow campers to gather and perhaps enjoy a meal together. What really struck us was attention to detail with regard to the camp's sustainability practices. From choice of building materials, waste management policies, and clear regard for minimising impact to the immediate environment, no detail was left unchecked. Seriously, pat on the back for Campwell here. Highly recommend: - We undertook a foraging tour with a knowledeable guide. She introduced us to a surprisingly diverse spread of flora and versed us in methods of plant identification and the distinctions between safe/harmful mushrooms etc. Despite it apparently not being optimal time of year for foraging, this was very good value for money. - Swim in the lake: cold, but refreshing! (Carved wooden boat for the wusses!) - Day trip to nearby Bath if you've never been before (or even if you have).
A unique experience which combines the adventure of a campsite with the comfort of a hotel. We were excited pre trip despite the lack of reviews, and Campwell exceeded our expectations. The owner was nice and helpful, and the yurt we stayed in (yurtdown) was perfect, with an indoor fireplace and large, comfortable bed. The kitchen was unlike any we had cooked in before, with a huge pizza oven and old school gas stove, although many people cooked on the fire pits outside. The wild loo and shower were a unique bathroom experience which I doubt I’ll ever see again elsewhere. The surrounding forest was so beautiful, highlighted by the stunning lake around a 20 minute walk away, where we used the free canoe. The only things that could be improved are the lack of a clear map of the area and the ambiguity of the website, but the place is incredible. We will definitely be back!
I hosted a yoga retreat here in September and it was the perfect space to bring people together; to detach from technology and a busy lifestyle, slow down and connect with nature and the beautiful surroundings. We were blessed with beautiful weather and had a magical experience. I can't wait to go back.
CAMPWELL is quiet and has the best off-grid facilities I have encountered. The location is great and there are great walks nearby with stunning views. I've stayed in the Cob Round and its so cosy! It has an open fire, and its own deck. Would visit and recommend time and time again!
As soon as you enter the area, a sense of peace descends. To be able to stay right in the heart of woodland is wonderful. The accommodation is comfortable and I hope to be able to spend a lot more time there. As a place to 'rewild' and get back to nature, it's perfect.
