Cannock, United Kingdom
Hednesford

Let's be honest, if someone put this up now there would be riots. But when this was built the few dozen farmers and half a million miners that inhabited the Cannock badlands wanted to use their clunky dial operated phones and sink buckets of shillings into the massive coin operated block of glass and Formica that they called a TV. (Please consult a historian for confirmation of this). The radiation from the tower and the TV was probably more than the fallout from the impending apocalypse nuclear war between the yanks and the reds that was expected every tea time. This huge concrete tower was expected to be so far from anywhere worth grilling into glass that along with the local culture would survive as part of the new world disorder. Thank God they didn't put it in Clayhanger.
