Great place to enjoy some fresh seafood. Much better than Dukes Seafood next door BUT due to to Covid, seats are strictly first come first serve basis, as in no reservations available, and long queues are likely around lunchtime because some of the seats were reserved!?

Super fresh, generous portions, great value and unpretentious. Can’t ask for anything more! My girlfriend and I came here on a day trip from London on reputation that this place was good. The reputation held true. Staff were efficient and food was served in good time. We had a half dozen of both types of oysters, a seafood platter for two with chips & mushy peas on the side. The seafood platter had so much seafood! Somehow we managed to find space for dessert afterwards and so had the bread & butter pudding & chocolate fudge cake. The portion with these was generous too! Went for a walk after on the beach to help the food go down, nice local scenery. Will most certainly return!

The original fantastic owners have been kicked out of the location by the greedy owner. Been told it’s now very disappointing. Probably being run by the property owners son. Typical England. Such a shame, we have been coming to mersea since I was a child and this place was amazing but now the whole island is being taken over by shear greed. Apparently you guys who created the oyster bar now own the island fish and chips and it’s the same high quality that they did at the oyster bar. I hope they find a nice new place and can continue offering quality, value and service.

Having lunched today at the new owners of the Oyster bar with its new outside under cover eating area we were unfortunatly disappointed in the once glorious fish and chip meal. Fish small batter wet thick and gluey minimum chips no salad on the side and thin pieces of bread. This was once the BEST fish and chips in the UK pre Christmas. What a disappointment now.

Best oysters and fish and chips by far! Ok, to be fair i have not tried too many other oyster bars, but why change when you're onto a good thing? Been here several times over the past few years. Its a long way to travel for for me just to eat oysters, and there's always a long queue, but its totally worth it when the food comes out. I don't mind the queue as its a good sign that the food is good and you know it'll be fresh as they keep churning the food out, so nothing is sitting there for hours waiting for someone to buy it. They have the crispiest fish batter with hot cripsy yet fluffy chips. The local Colchester and Mersey oysters are as fresh as they come. Sweet and succulent with the slight saltiness of the sea. Just divine! The staff are very friendly and helpful, which tops off the whole experience perfectly. Well done!

One of the best places to have freshly made seafood if you're ever around Mersea Island. Their seafood platter offers a great collection of options on a single plate and is a must try.

This is one of the places we always visit every time we go to Mersea island. I can't wait to go back there after the lockdown.
