The 1907 Benenden Hospital/Sanatorium in Kent was built under the patronage of King Edward VII & his sister in order to treat postal workers suffering from tuberculosis. The original sanatorium building stands on a sunny south-facing slope with views over an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Unusually for its time, instead of constructing the usual straight-line building, the architect of the Benenden Sanatorium pavilion, Augustus William West, produced a design that was crescent-shaped, with wings leading off a central communal area at about 145. Over the years the role of the Hospital/Sanatorium has obviously changed with more modern refurbishments; the Benenden Healthcare Society is now known as Benenden Health and offers a range of discretionary healthcare & well-being services to individual & business healthcare members. Unfortunately this modernisation has left the original Augustus William West building in a bit of jeopardy with a draft neighbourhood development plan, proposing the demolition of 'decaying structures' & replacement with new dwellings. STOP PRESS Nov-20: Save Britain's Heritage is urging for a rethink into the future of the Benenden Hospital/Sanatorium in Kent which is under threat of total demolition.

Totally excellent experience! In these Covid times, their attention to ensuring that the virus stays out of the hospital is brilliant! All the staff are friendly and caring, all round excellent!

Nice and modern, staff are friendly and the consultants are professional. Deducted 1 star because of the food in the canteen, it's like a bad school dinner from the 80s- luke warm sausage rolls, frozen chips and beans.

Have only been to Benenden as a visitor, but have found it to be very clean modern and up to date, the staff are helpful and friendly and have time to help you with any questions or concerns you may have. Will give an update in a few weeks with more information as I will be back again, but from what I've seen so far Benenden Hospital is a very good Hospital. Note.. This Hospital is run as a private enterprise with no accident and emergency.

I attended with my wife today the 21/12/2019, the staff were very polite and nice. We decided to have lunch following my wife’s appointment and what we were given was unbelievably disgusting. The chicken Tika looked must like someone vomited on a plate and it was spicy hot but tasteless. The soup was reheated straight from a 45 pence can, the frozen chips appeared to have been cooked several times and were oily and dry. Surely you can make an effort, you have uninterested staff who can not do that extra effort to please the customers.
