Lovely peaceful place for a picnic in the Station masters orchard, attractive old station building, a couple of items of vintage rolling stock parked at the platform. Building not open at the moment, probably too difficult to cope with Covid 19 regulations when manned by volunteers.

We stopped here on the way back from North Norfolk. There is a coffee shop that opens on Sundays, but as it was midweek we couldn't sample it's delight. County School is part of the Mid Norfolk Railway, and it is in the process of reinstating the line from here to Dereham. A must for all Railway enthusiasts, and please if you can contribute to the work the MNR Heritage line are doing.

This redundant station on the Mid Norfolk Railway has been carefully restored to show how it would have been during WW2, when railways played a key role in communications and logistics, and were targets for enemy bomber planes. There is an orchard with an insect haven and authentic Anderson Shelter to the front side of the station. As well as some vintage carriages, the station also features vintage branding and a little museum featuring artefacts and photos from the station's long history, many military in nature. The museum is only open on Sundays and Bank Holidays during tourist season, so do check the MNR website for precise times. When I visited with a friend last year, the owner kindly opened up the museum for us even though it wasn't officially open, and allowed us time to explore it fully. Then gave us some lovely windfall apples from the orchard. There is free wheelchair friendly car parking and the museum is reasonably accessible. There are also wooden benches on each platform where you could enjoy a repast from the little tea room. Very family friendly, plus there's a beautiful trackside walk through the verdant countryside to North Elmham station, roughly two miles long.
