Dunoon itself is well served by having more than one Ferry Service and in 1973 Western Ferries began operating from Hunter's Quay, a terminal located 2 miles to the North of Dunoon. The red and white livery of the Western Ferries vessels, such as seen on The MV Sound of Soay, is very familiar & distinctive.

Enjoyed the trip. Quick on and off, regular sailings. Much nicer than going all the way round by road. Tip: tickets are cheaper if you buy them at the local petrol station or post office beforehand.

Fast and very good ferry crossing . Better buy tickets on board, not online - if you have spontaneous trip

Good service overall, \first arrived first on the ferry\. Obviously saves a lot of time (and fuel). Funny to be in your car, but look outside and see the ocean. As mentioned in other reviews, it is cheaper to buy tickets at dedicated agents nearby rather than at the ferry terminal or on board.

Make sure you buy your tickets from the agents, rather than on board. Look at the website there are plenty of agents around the area. We bought them from the Jet garage just outside Dunoon. Cheaper to buy a return than a single! The ferry was half empty when we turned up and there was not ONE single car waiting. We entered the arrival area and drove to the two guys with orange vests and the obvious waiting car ferry. Very rudely the attendant asked me to use the lanes to ensure I got on the ferry. It was empty, there were no other cars, it was an obvious thing to do IF there had been ANY other vehicles - but there wasn't. Just a polite reminder, courtesy is free and the need to moan is very costly.
