Went here as Zaza's had stopped serving breakfasts. Piccolo's specified "thin, crispy bacon" too which is always a plus. Accurate description too! Rather small breakfast for the price but still, fast service tasty. Cakes looked great so went for coffee and walnut. Strangely they decide to take around 10 minutes to serve cake as they send it to the kitchen for an unnecessary fresh fruit decoration. Sadly this cake was pretty dry with too much icing. I'm assured their vegan carrot cake is good though. Service is haphazard but charming; the owner is passionatetalkative and the waitress when I was there completely ignored me initiallyseemed really miserable. They are genuinely trying to do their best though!! The owner said the Fringe gets so busy that it's like a drugshe loves it, it seems to leave her a bit distracted though which can come across as abrupt. I'd definitely go back if I had time to spare, not for food in a hurry.

Excellent, down to earth, staff/owners. Excellent food and they went the further mile to accomodate me as a vegan, offered to make me a thick creamy hot chocolate which was delicious. Had a full english vegan breakfast and a vegan carrot cake for afters. All absolutely gorgeous and not overpriced like most bougie vegan places. Was there about half past two Thursday gone.
Place was great! Wasnt crowded and food was wonderful! She was very helpful with giving us ideas of how to spend our time here as well!
We came here for some lunch and what a great decision that was! The staff were lovely, attentive and polite. The food was all freshly made and delicious. I would highly recommend this bistro.
I ate here 4 times while I was in Edinburgh for 4 days. The bacon and egg breakfast sandwiches were fresh and delicious and had very generous amounts of bacon. Great value for the price. Alessia was always very friendly and helpful, and well aware of gluten free items. I will definitely be back any time I’m in Edinburgh.
Lovely little cafe. Nice food. Great staff. Grass Market is very cool and great view of the castle from their window. .
The staff were friendly but the food was very disappointing **Edited to provide more information following a response from the business owner** The menu looked simple and lovely, and we ordered two ham and cheese toasties to take away with us. Although the owner states that 90% of the ingredients are organic, when we opened the packages as we walked along the street we found that both the bread and the ham looked and tasted as if they were straight out of a supermarket budget range packet. The mozzarella was lovely, but unfortunately there was only one small slice in the middle of the sandwich. The sandwich itself hadn't been toasted long enough to get warm or for the cheese to melt, so we basically had a semi-toasted ham sandwich on our hands. I'm sorry to go against the grain as most of the reviews left here are excellent, but this was my experience one morning during the last week of the Fringe!
Strange place. We walked in and were told instantly by the woman behind the counter (not the sign on the door) we could only stay if we were having cake or food with our coffee, despite the place being empty. I understand this if it's busy, but we were the only 2 in there? Coffee was fine, although the kettle was boiled for the americano, so may have been an instant, other coffee was good. We ordered a slice of cake, which we were told we needed to order to be able to sit inside, but we were told that cake is "quite dry" so we ordered a slice of another cake, which was nice. Poor experience. Won't be hurrying back any time soon, especially with other great local coffee spots in such close vicinity. Hopefully was just a one off. The pictures of sandwiches and meals do look good. Update due to owners response: you can get a clue of what this place is like by her attitude in her response. As rank as her dry cakes.
