Ensign Ewart Reviews | Rating 4.5 out of 5 stars (5 reviews)

Ensign Ewart is located in Edinburgh, United Kingdom on 521-523 Lawnmarket. Ensign Ewart is rated 4.5 out of 5 in the category pub in United Kingdom. Located just a three minute walk from Edinburgh's famous castle stands The Ensign Ewart. Named after a Scottish soldier who fought at the Battle of Waterloo, this cosy little pub serves a variety of hearty fare including Scottish Venison Casserole and Smoked Salmon, with all ingredients being locally sourced. Sitting at 521 Lawnmarket on the Royal Mile, The Ensign is the highest pub in Edinburgh, and parts of it can be dated back to around 1603. The pub's decor reflects both the age of the pub and it's name: exposed beams, horse and weapons paraphenalia and depictions of Ensign Ewart at the Battle of Waterloo all line the walls. In addition to it's four cask ales, The Ensign also boasts seperate gin and whisky lists which change on a regular basis. Most nights of the week there is live music, ranging from local unplugged acts to modern and traditional folk.

Dog friendly. Awesome bar at the top of the Royal Mile, small and cozy place with super friendly and attentive staff. Half price pizzas on Wednesday too make them such good value and well worth a stop to sample.

Good service. Great food. Comfortable pub atmosphere. Server recommended excellent gin & tonic combo. My husband and I split the soup and sandwich lunch because we are not big eaters. Table of 6, and everyone was very happy!

Lovely ambience, staff were lovely and when a better table was available asked if we would like to move. Limited menu as only a small kitchen but all our food was lovely even though it was served as soon as it was ready which meant we weren't all served together but they did warn this would happen. Service was slow but the pizza was one of the best pizzas I can remember having. The ale went down easily too! I'd give it 4.5* due to the wait, but really enjoyed eating here. Cheers :)
