Grab a literary bargain in Oxfam Books - a wonderful and inexpensive resource for book lovers of all tastes. There's a great Scottish section where you'll find books about Scottish history, art, poetry and places and you can usually find work by some of Scotland's best novelists. Of course all books are donated so stock will always vary. Kid's books are often to be found and there are usually some collectors' pieces for sale. Include a visit among a trawl of Stockbridge's many nearby charity shops, not forgetting Oxfam Music just across the road.

Slightly smaller shop, and a less wide range than the Shelter bookshop further down Raeburn Place. It also is seems a little more expensive. I’d visit Shelter for children’s books (as Oxfam has a smaller selection), but Oxfam does have an excellent selection of art and design books, plus the usual range of fiction and non-fiction that you would expect, and some rare and collectibles. There are maps and prints as well, although these veer to the slightly expensive side for second-hand. Despite these minor criticisms, it’s still a good charity shop, and worth a visit.

Great little charity book shop! It was smaller than I hope it would be but the books are in good condition and have reasonable prices (the academic books a bit less)
