This is another amazing historical site to look around it’s areal shame it now lies in ruins like a lot of our castles around Britain.....Saying that there is still enough of the castle walls left to give you a good impression of what the place was like in times gone by....As you walk around there is a atmosphere & you can imagine what went on both inside & outside the Castle walls....Think of the battles that raged the death & destruction plus the sounds of happiness & laughter over the Castles life....It stands in the valley of the River Frome with the City of Bath just 9 miles away....It started in the 14th century as a fortified mansion the Castle was occupied for 300 years by the Hungerford family there is a family tree displayed in the priest house one of the the biggest I have ever seen....There is plenty to see as you look around including the intact chapel & crypt plus an exhibition in the priests house also a lovely little gift shop on site where you can get tea or coffee from a vending machine....Overall a great interesting place to look around....

Historical fun, with creepy stories and fun facts all round. If you want somewhere that's cheap and will get you out for an afternoon its definitely the place to go!

It's a shame this lovely castles not survive like they were before! But you can feel the atmosphere and it's well conserved. Thank you for keeping this places for us to be able to see!

We had a really nice lunch, everything felt clean and safe without feeling restricted. Staff were helpful without being overbearing and the lady that served us was wonderful- we were a bit too early for the main menu so she took our orders and made sure our food came as soon after 12 as she could.

This is a hidden gem of a castle. It is well signposted with a small car park reached by driving through the gatehouse. The castle is large in size but not much is left now. There are excellent info boards and a very good museum in the Priests House. There’s also a small shop. Only 30 minutes drive from Bristol and well worth a visit.
