The only constantly excavated site along the Hadrians wall monument. A vast Fort and Village to explore and a beautiful museum boasting an amazing collection of Roman artifacts including shoes and writing tablets. Because it is a live site it doesn't allow dogs for obvious reasons. You can talk to the archaeologists and excavators during the week April to September.

It was great lots to see and walk around it’s an interesting place and managed to get Hadrian’s wall in too which is close by.

We went on a bit of a rainy day, a great site to explore with kids, but can be muddy so wellies and wet weather gear are recommended. The staff and volunteers were knowledgeable and helpful. The children loved playing in the reconstructed forts and there are lots of exhibits to see in the museum section. It's on our return list and there are some good value tickets that give access for a year, you can also get a combination ticket that gives access to the Roman Army museum as well. That said it kept my two (8yo and 4yo) occupied for a good two hours and if it wasn't for the weather we would have stayed longer.

Walking round the ruins and reading the description of what was once there you kind of wonder how they know. The museum confirms it all and it's amazing what has been uncovered over the years. We'd been there two hours before I even checked the time. Definitely worth a visit. Great walks on the wall too

An impressive site of heritage. You can image how great the Rome did here. And the most important point, the site is still living.

Absolutely fascinating. An incredible insight into the past. The fact that nine forts were built on the site over a period of more than three hundred years is in itself an amazing source of information.

An ongoing archaeological site, with recreations of military and civilian buildings on the actual site. The best gift shop on Hadrian's wall! I visited three times! Always a pleasure!

Fantastic place well signposted also plenty of seating without sitting on the walls. Lots of information dotted around concerning the ruins. Well worth a visit for anyone even those only remotely interested in history. Good pathways for scooters so access for disabled as well.
