We have had a contract with Hoistway for six years now. Every year they come and inspect the lift and every year something expensive is broken and needs to be replaced. But the thing is the broken parts are those that only the Hoistway engineer can access. So its obviously a scam whereby the engineers get a commission on the cost of repairs. Usually the part cannot be replaced and a more expensive one has to be sourced. It becoming like a scratched record. It's a scam and avoid Hoistway if you can as they are a most unprofessional bunch of unscrupulous shysters. You have been warned.

Avoid at your peril. Lived in a flat serviced by a lift 'maintained' by these cowboys. The light stopped working in the lift and so contacted them under the maintenance contract. Was informed that the ballast in the lift had malfunctioned and a new one could not be sourced so a complete new light installation fitted at a cost of 200. I removed the ceiling of the lift and was able to find the 'bust' ballast at a cost of 15 only to find that all that was needed was two new tubes at a cost of 10. Later that year the lift was 'serviced' only on return to home I found the lift was no longer operational. I was told that the technician had left the lift in a working condition. After three days of investigation a cracked relay base was found to be the cause within the cabinet which is not accessible by anyone but themselves. The owner was very aggressive and adamant that this could 'have happened at anytime' and was not related to the service technician. Total bill for their cockup - 790. Be warned.

I have the misfortune of working at a company in a building with lifts provided by Hoistway. They are the worst lifts I've ever had to use. They're constantly breaking. The door close button does literally nothing (ok this is relatively common but it doesn't mean it isn't stupid). Both lifts idle on the ground floor, so you *always* have to wait if you are on a high floor. Why not idle one on the ground floor and one halfway up the building? And they're slow. God are they slow. Whoever built these lifts put in the bare minimum effort to make them go up and down, and that's it. No PID control here. Barely any acceleration, not that it would need it - the maximum speed is about 2 mph. Imagine how frustrating a lift needs to be before it gets bad reviews on Google Maps.

My mother lives in a home with their lifts and the break down rate is alarming. At least twice this year and several weeks wait each time. The residents can't get down stairs for meals and have to have them in their rooms making them feel isolated. It also impacts the staff who have to carry everything upstairs. It not really good enough .
