Nice products, reliably indifferent / miserable service. Two years in a row I’ve made the trip to Cley Smokehouse for my Christmas smoked salmon and two years in a row the service was lacking. Sure they’ll sell you some salmon if they must, really not too fussed either way. They’ll take your money but that’s pretty much it. I guess they shift enough boxes of fish at Christmas to not care about repeat business as they’ll sell out regardless. Nothing wrong with the excellent fish, but you never leave feeling happy like you’ve supported a little local business and done a good thing.

A legendary smokehouse and a must visit for anyone who likes fish or meat. Smoked mackerel was to die for as was the kipper I purchased.
Very dissatisfied we visited on the Saturday of the bank holiday the lady ! Serving was not exactly polite ( understatement) and the products we bought we're not as good as I've bought elsewhere in other smoke houses. My trip to norfolk to visit my sister was vastly improved by my visit to tavern tasty meats a wonderful butchers and very polite. Their meat is superb. I suggest that the woman serving learns some lessons from them especially regarding customer service.
We discovered the smoke house while staying nearby and were impressed with their products - the kippers especially are excellent. We have since ordered on-line and the service is again good. HOWEVER, the young man who answered the phone needs to learn some manners. We explained that we bought regularly but asked why, unlike their excellent competitors, Pinneys of Orford, they do not sell whole smoked mackerel. He was blunt to the point of being rude - essentially his answer was 'We don't, and that's the way it is.'
Great selection of smoked fish aswell as dry smoked beef, pork, chicken and even wood pigeon. Some tasty pates on offer too. Ideal stop for collecting tasty treats to have a picnic on the marshes.
