We had one of HSS’ representatives come out to speak to the children in my school today. I thought the presentation had some very valid points, and I liked that there was a chance for children who are do not follow a faith to learn about morals that they may have. I was enjoying it, although it did puzzle me that they were mentioning controversial subjects, but would not elaborate on the HSS’ reasoning behind it. It was going well until the end of the presentation, when the man (whom I can’t remember the name of) said that he has been challenged on the way he thinks the world was made by religious people, and that he believes in science only and that anyone who thinks otherwise’ opinion is just blatant ignorance, which I thought was very hypocritical as earlier he mentioned that the HSS believe in the rights of the human, which includes the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion and that their views (as long as they are not hurting themselves or others) be respected. I very much like the idea of the HSS, however, I don’t think that what their representative said was acceptable, wether that was a personal view or a view that the society shares with them.
