Donald is THE expert on the Great Glen Way canoe trail - he literally wrote the book (which I would thoroughly recommend). We rented gear for a 5 day expedition which was great quality, and Donald was happy to give us a a few handy handling tips. Looking forward to booking a guided tour with Donald on another of his routes next year. Booking process was clear and straightforward if following instructions - he's a one man band so deserves a little leeway when it comes to back and forth communication. Would highly recommend his website - a lot of care has been taken on an interactive map and planning resources.

Canoeing the Great Glen Way was a lot of fun, I highly recommended it. Donald at Explore Highland was super helpful, knowledgeable and we all felt really confident after our training with him. The equipment we hired was all in great condition (new canoes!) and easy to use plusthe dry bags and barrels provided were great in the ever changing Scottish Highland weather. Thanks Donald!

You should be aware that Donald lives by his T&Cs. If you book an event, even during COVID, you should be aware of the following points with this one man company. 1. Have suitable insurance in place for a Pandemic. Even if the booking was made and a 1,000 deposit paid. 2. Rescheduling an event and not forefitng your deposit is entirely at Donald discretion. 3. If you miss the balance payment, even if you have paid a substantial deposit, don't expect Donald to contact you. My event for 10 people was simply cancelled and deposit retained by Donald after missing the balance payment date by 10 working days. In my experience T&Cs are there to resolve problems not a code of operation, not so with this one man band operation. There are other great businesses offering the same experiences. It seems from the feedback here and on other review platforms that this is not the first time he has treated customers in this way. Sadly I never got to paddle with Donald, it seems that those that do enjoy the experience, but your money is at risky up until you hit the water. Donald, choose to take and keep the deposit, cancel the event, rather than ask why the balance payment was not made by the date added to his invoice.

I organised a Great Glen trip for 6 people, Donald was helpful and dropped much knowledge. A good service was provided at reasonable price, I would definitely recommend and we will be using EH for future trips.

My trip was cancelled in June due to bad weather which was understandable, and after a chat with Donald, was told I’d be contacted the next week to rearrange. I wasn’t. I knew he was busy getting his business up and running again after lockdown so I didn’t chase. After a week, I reached out on email and Facebook, and subsequently over the next month sent six emails to rearrange. Other than one (asking what other dates I could do and I responded), all were ignored including the last two asking for a refund as no arrangements were forthcoming. Two months in and I’ve had to raise a PayPal dispute to get my money back. Seeing all the social media posts of happy faces on their excursions is particularly baffling as a response could have sorted this. I was very much looking forward to getting out on the water with my daughter and Explore Highland look highly reputable and great at what they do. My experience however is a shambles. I’ve never written a bad review before but I’m annoyed I’ve had to go to these lengths to get my money back. I’m also self employed and lockdown has hurt many of us. It’s 70 I could have done with in my own pocket the past two months. PayPal have tonight refunded me (but I’ll have to wait 5-30 days to get the money).
