Brilliant School!!! On my road to gaining my full bike license I trained at three different schools, doing my CBT at one, my mod 1 at another and finally my mod 2 with Excel. Having now passed my test I can safely say that Excel was the best out of all three training bodies by a considerable margin, this was all down to the quality of the instruction. I had two days training and a morning before my Mod 2 test with Ian. Arriving on the first day I felt rusty as I had not ridden for a while and wasn’t feeling confident about going for my test. After only half a day training with Ian I felt great on the bike and knew I could do it. Ian is a highly professional and selfless instructor, he quickly identified the areas which I needed to work on and patiently helped me tackle the local roundabouts and junctions. On test day I managed to pass with just 2 minors so I was well chuffed. Looking back I wish I had done all my training with Excel as it would have saved me a lot of time, money and effort. Looking forward to going back and doing my enhanced rider with these guys. Highly recommended

Ian at Excel Motorcycle Training has been my Instructor since 1995. He has supported and educated me through the learning journey from CBT and Direct Access through to achieving repeated Gold standard tests every three years as a RoSPA Advanced Motorcyclist. Ian teaches in a very calm, supportive, progressive and holistic manner and constantly engages with rider and industry development - what he doesn't know is probably not worth knowing.

Ian’s knowledge is second to none. Passed all modules of my DAS with only 1 minor

YOU WILL FAIL AND FAIL BADLY is what Ian said to me when I asked him to escort me to my motorcycle test, he was free but refused to do so. I had to get another company to escort me on my “up to date” motorcycle which was in far better condition than the bike he provides, I passed fine and the minor I got was from the techniques he taught me! I am still waiting for a refund for the test fee as promised from Ian but still haven’t received it! I started my training in May and still hadn’t done my mod 2 by the end of August. I therefore booked my test myself after seeing lots available and getting fed up with Ian’s excuses. Ian came up with excuse after excuse and wouldn’t respond to texts/calls. In the end I had to withhold my number for him to answer his phone. Ian knew my CBT was due to expire in October and he said that was the only time he could conveniently get a test. DO NOT GO WITH HIM

I can highly recommend this motorcycle school, Ian is very experienced and accomplished at training both DAS and Advanced riding. I had the pleasure of a full days advanced training with some very good positive feed back given throughout the day. He started our day with some informal questions and diagrams, then it was on to the roads of north Essex and Suffolk for some progressive riding where possible. He covered all aspects of riding including town work and national speed limit roads. Along with some slow speed Control. At the end of the day we had a full debrief and he offered some areas of improvement but also praised on the good points, he then wrote a full report which is passed over to the DVLA for assessment. Already being a ROSPA gold holder this day sharpened up my skill set and also gained my another accreditation. It was an awesome day, and will take away some very valid points to practice. Many thanks all at Excel

I started an intensive course on 11th November with no knowledge of a bike what’s so ever, I completed my CBT,Mod1,Mod2 with Ian. What a geeza Ian is, so down to earth and can alway have a good chat and a laugh on and off the motorcycle. Throughout driving Ian will point out everything from speed signs road marking and different types of junction, he lets you know why they are there and how that affects you on the road. Overall a gleaming bloke and an amazing Intructor 100% recommended to anyone looking for this licence Good luck in the future Cheers Ian

Having started to ride again after a long layoff, I met Ian in 2013 when he was presenting a 'Bikesafe' day on behalf of Essex Police. Since then he has instructed me 1-1 or 1-2 through the advanced riding levels, up to ROSPA Gold and most recently (Apr '18) through the new IAM Masters Test. Over that time, I've also been out with a dozen or more other instructors or observers. Some were extremely good, but if asked to recommend one, it would certainly be Ian. The way he adapts to the level and style of teaching that's just right for each pupil (whatever their riding standard), and at the same time is absolutely consistent about safety and the system of advanced riding, is really impressive.
