What a perfect introduction to sailing! I could not speak highly enough of the team at Hamilton Sailing. My partner and I went from never having stepped foot on a sailing boat to being confident and 'compitent crew' members. Mark and the team are a wealth of knowledge and deliver the information and instruction in a supportive and easy to understand way. I find it always beneficial when learning anything to have a teacher/ instructor that can take you from beginning to end (Novice - Advanced).. and Mark and the team are that.. true experts in their field. The other trainee crew members were a mixed and great group and after an initial concern from my partner that she would be the only female on board I can confirm that this was not the case. We had a great group. The only issue I had was it was over to fast and walking away from Sirius after the two weekend course was a hard thing to do... so I have already booked the next course for me (Day Skipper) and can not wait to get the sails up again. Hamilton Sailing didn't just teach me how to sail... they gave me a new passion for a lifetime! If you are considering booking just do it. You won't look back.

I did a 5 day RYA Coastal Skipper course with Hamilton Sailing in September 2020. It was an intense 5 days where we went from Ipswich down to the Blackwater and back again. I practised, learnt or revised many skills. Our group was a mix of Competent Crew, Day Skipper and Coastal Skipper and this worked very well. The instructor (Owen Timms) got the sweet spot right between on the one hand, professional instruction and coaching and on the other hand, relaxed downtime fun and socialising. Cannot recommend it more highly.
This is a fantastic course that I would recommend to any novice sailor. Every day was packed with intensely fun activities guaranteed to instill the revelent technical language and skills for successful crewing. The skipper gave clear instructions while leaving lots of room for developement of personal skills. In the evenings we reviewed each crew members positive points and points to work on accompanied with drinks and snacks. Great group; great laughs. I can't wait to do it again for my Practical Skipper Course!
The Day Skipper Theory was interesting and well taught and really prepared me for the practical. Had a great five days on board Sirius, Jon was an excellent teacher, and sailing on the River Orwell, Stour and out in the North Sea was a fantastic experience. Now feel confident and capable to charter in the med.
Just completed my Competent Crew course with Hamilton Sailing. I had no previous experience of sailing however tuition was professional and I learnt a lot during the 5 day course. The yacht is well kept and comfortable. Highly recommended and will be back to complete my Day Skipper. Thanks Mark
I went for a day sail with a group of clients and can honestly say we all had exhilarating and exciting time. None of us had ever been sailing before yet by the end of the day we had all steered the yacht as well as learning so much more about sailing. In addition to this we had time to relax, take in the scenery and the overall experience. We were all fully prepped on safety and given a hearty meal. A thoroughly enjoyable day.
