I travelled from North Wales to Circle Bath to have a hip operation in November 2020. My consultant was Mr James Berstock..I had researched Mr Berstock and felt hs qualifications and experience gave me confidence in his ability. His manner was very professional but very caring and he put me at my ease. The operation was completed with no problems and my recovery was quick. As a result 4 months later Mr Berstock undertook a hip operation on my other hip. This was also done in a reassuring professional way. I am on the road to recovery and looking forward to leading a more normal life. I was very nervous about hip replacements but I was happy to have Mr Berstock undertake both operations.

Mr Berstock was excellent in diagnosing the extent of my knee injury and suggesting a treatment plan. He was very clear in articulating technical medical issues in a way that was very understandable and talking me through the results of an X ray and MRI scan. He was empathetic whilst managing my expectations of recovery and suggesting a staged approach to physiotherapy/exercise which is working really well. It was also incredibly reassuring to be able to get an appointment and follow up MRI scan very quickly.

After some years of severe hip and leg pain I had a consultation with Dr Berstock where he explained very carefully and clearly what my hip problem was and that if I were to proceed with an operation my pain would be significantly reduced and movement would be eased. I had hip replacement surgery on 27 March 2020. I was in hospital for 3 days. On the day Dr Berstock was involved right from the beginning, explaining what was going to happen and how. Throughout the procedure he ensured that I was aware of what was happening as well as answering any questions I asked. The following day, (Saturday), he visited me in his own time to ensure that I was comfortable and that the incision showed no signs of infection. I was able to ask further questions to allay any fears I had as well as what to expect during the recovery period. I found Dr Berstock to be very caring and understanding. At the follow up phone consultation he showed great interest and patience in my rehabilitation progress. I have now fully recovered and am looking forward to returning for my other hip replacement in the near future! I cannot recommend Dr Berstock highly enough to anyone who is contemplating hip replacement surgery. You will be in the hands of a very capable and caring surgeon.
