JLH Languages teaches languages to adults as a type of "brain gym."​ In a bid to live a healthy life for longer there is increasing scientific evidence that suggests that we need to exercise our brain as well as our body. Factors that help to keep our brain in good shape are: • Education – learning a new skill • Social engagement – joining a club, meeting with other people • Cognitive stimulation – reading, puzzles, crosswords Learning a foreign language includes all 3 of these elements. In addition, doing something different and fun is also an excellent way of reducing stress. Languages are taught in an innovative way. Each unit of teaching is based around a conversation (e.g. on food, sport, camping, music) and by the end of each module learners will have mastered the conversation so that they are able communicate effectively in the target language on that topic. Highly recommended. I have been learning French with Jane for over a year now and love the lessons. Jane has a creative approach to teaching which makes the lessons go quickly and she packs them full of fun and interest. Jane's dedication to providing engaging lessons means that I get to try new ways of learning French based on evidence based research .... and it works so well. My french is progressing really well and my confidence grows week on week. All lessons have been adapted brilliantly for online learning too. Superb!

The hour lesson which I share with three other students are now online, the time goes very quickly. Jane is an experienced teacher, she makes the lessons fun and is creative in her teaching. I have been learnng French with JLH Languages for 2 and a half years now and enjoyed every class. Classes are normally in a local Library but are currently on Zoom in small groups for about an hour. We learn through conversation on topics, underpinned with French grammar, all at our own pace. The lessons and homework are interesting and never too difficult, but there is enough challenge to keep moving forward. Attending classes has boosted both my brain and confidence and given me a sense of purpose now I am retired.
