James is a fantastic guitar teacher, and crucially, is a really decent bloke who is easy to learn from and spend time with. He wears his deep knowledge of music lightly. He teaches you the songs that you want to learn, simply and quickly, so you enjoy it. Then he layers over the theory underpinning the song. Then he adds in technique so you become a better player. James not only teaches me, but also patiently teaches my two children as well, who both love his lessons. He is also has a huge knowledge of guitars and equipment and is really patient at explaining what to buy and how to get the most from it, untangling technical issues, all of which is vital as a beginner. I started a year ago with James with no guitar and no knowledge of how to play music. With James help, we now play together as a family band, in our home studio that James has helped me understand how to create, and whilst we won't be troubling the charts for a while, we can pass off a range of songs together. In short, I would not hesitate to recommend James for guitar lessons, for people of any age.

James has been amazing at adapting to online lessons this last year, and still is able to see exactly where hand placement is etc on the strings - over a small screen. I've been really impressed at how patient he is - with me and my 8 year old, and he's great at encouraging us. I find him very easy to get on with and have recommended him to friends, no matter what their age, because James has the ability to teach everyone!
My 13 yr. old daughter has attended weekly lessons with James for a number of years now and has thoroughly enjoyed this time . I have always found him to be clear and inciteful around practice and my daughter has successfully gained merits and distinctions in her acoustic guitar gradings. James always makes sure the lessons are both fun and informative and expectations remain high which encourages regular practice . He is a very cool teacher which also helps !
James is the best guitar tutor i have had since i started learning to play. Every session is fun and he tailors them perfectly to suit what we are working on and the level i am at. I have learned so much more about guitar theory and practical skills which have been great for imrproving my ability to play songs in various genres. His knowledge and enthusiasm for teaching guitar is so impressive and he communicates it well. When i decide to learn a tricky song he can find smart ways to help me break it down to master it. I really appreciate the effort he puts in, it makes such a difference to the emotion of playing guitar when you have someone who can make it so engaging each week and support you when you need it most.
My son was only 8 when he started guitar lessons with James. Despite his young age James was always very patient with him and always got the best out of him. His enthusiasm and knowledge of music makes the lessons very enjoyable.
Very good instructor, the best that i have had. He was incredably knoweldgeable and was able to work theory into learning songs alowing for fast improvements
James is a awesome teacher, he tailors lessons to you and your taste rather than my past experiences! I am officially done with 'three blind mice' James will teach you different ways of playing the songs you love to make it easier for you and ultimately push your boundaries. I would highly recommend taking lessons with him, you will not regret it!
James is an amazing guitar teacher, he has been teaching my 11 year old son for the last 2 1/2 years and I wouldn’t go anywhere else. He is thorough, patient and tailors the lesson to the individual student. 100% recommended!
