Build a business which focuses only on our clients’ best interests – not shareholders’ or debtors’. Then fill it with really smart people – problem solvers, not sales people. Don’t get complacent – innovate, eek out every bit of improvement, all the time. And make wealth an enabler, not a worry, for our clients. We left well paid, steady jobs and invested our own money in our idea. Just before the credit crunch. At the time, it didn’t feel very clever. But the financial crisis caused people to question the advice they were getting, sometimes from those same institutions accused of contributing to a malfunctioning system. Since then there have been many other uncertain years. That’s the nature of the world we live in. Opportunity and crisis spread quickly. And we live longer, have time to accomplish more things. This too requires sensible planning. We need better, more thoughtful advice, given quickly and accurately, from people looking out for us. And so it is that Edison is more relevant today than it has ever been. In 2007 we set out with a clear mission statement – to improve the lives of our clients. And we do.
