With the possible exception of a gift-wrapped brick, there can’t be anything more intriguing than a spiral staircase leading down to a Victorian foot tunnel. It’s definitely worth taking this tunnel to the other side of the river, and when you get there you’ll find something even better. They’ve also got a spiral staircase leading down to a Victorian foot tunnel, but this time it’s a tunnel that leads to Greenwich, not Island Gardens.

It is a brilliant piece of Victorian engineering. There is a spiral staircase and an elevator which takes us down under the Thames. It is very safe to travel through the tunnel as it is well used and maintained. Cycling is not allowed in the tunnel, but I saw many people passing by cycle when I was walking through. There are emergency buttons placed on the wall for such situations.

Brilliant service, although worth checking ahead for lift service if you are travelling with heavy things like bikes or buggies. Masks are required while using the lifts and tunnel due to coronavirus.
