This was my second time visiting Serene Spa. Upon arrival we were welcomed by a very polite receptionist, who sat us down and offered us something to drink. Not long after I was led to a room to receive my massage. The lady was very friendly and her hands worked wonders on my body. Just before leaving we bumped in to the owner who is the nicest lady you'll ever meet. I'll be back soon again!

Excellent service. Super friendly staff. Clean, fresh, calm, wonderfully scented treatment rooms. The best massage I have ever had in my life! Superb steam room, hot and spacious. I'm a repeat customer because I have found no faults here. Serene Spa is affordable indulgence! Staffed and run by wonderful women.
Always a friendly and welcoming. Massages are really relaxing and Edith has a good mix of experienced staff to ensure you have a restful experience.
The customer service and bad communication is the reason for the poor review, not the services themselves which were generally fine. I had booked two specific treatments for my birthday - a hot stone massage followed by a facial. The masseuse barely even acknowledged me when I arrived and started walking off expecting me to follow her. Once I got to the room, I learnt that a mistake had been made and that I wasn't getting a hot stone massage. After 20 minutes of back and forth - not exactly what you want on your birthday - I didn't feel like waiting any longer and decided to settle for the other massage. My facial also started off with an unfriendly welcome as when the next therapist walked in, I asked if it would be possible to turn the heating on as it was quite chilly to which she abruptly responded: \It's on.\ And that was that. I was overall pleased with the facial itself, however, once again felt that communication was lacklustre as usually you're warned by the facialist before they're about to pick out black heads since it's pretty painful - zero warning. When the time came to pay, I half expected them to say that they would apply a small discount which would have been the fair thing to do since I didn't actually fully get what I had asked for and I'd started 20 minutes later due to a lot of back and forth. This would have been the fair thing to do, so when I brought it up, again, there was an abrupt response of \I'm not authorised to do that\. Fair enough, but I'm fairly certain that the person who was authorised to do so was standing right next to her. I decided not to insist as I didn't want to end my experience in the same way it started - stressed and disappointed.
I have been going to Serene Spa for over 5 years, I moved away from Balham 2 years ago however still go there for all my treatments and here’s why. Edith and her team are the most friendly, warm and professional team, they make every client feel valued and welcome. I have regular deep tissue massages and waxing. Best massage I’ve had anywhere. I have had many other treatments there too, lots of different facials. They use Decleor products which are used by beauticians all over the world. Don’t be put off by malicious reviews, go and have a treatment and you will see what a wonderful relaxed experience they will provide for you.
