A much quieter foot tunnel than the one at Greenwich and nicer for it.

The Woolwich foot tunnel opened on Saturday, 26-Oct-1912 and crosses under the River Thames in Woolwich, in East London from Old Woolwich in the Royal Borough of Greenwich to North Woolwich in the London Borough of Newham. The tunnel offers pedestrians and cyclists an alternative way to cross the river when the Woolwich Free Ferry service is not operating. Both entrances to the tunnel are Grade II listed buildings.

Convenient alternative to the ferry for crossing the river if you want to walk. Has 24 hour lifts, or stairs. If you are claustrophobic, probably better to use the ferry. Too many cyclists who don't take the hint (there are many o cycling\ signs).

Lovely fast two way cycle path. Adorned with many encouraging 'Go Cycling' signs. Spoilt by dawdling pedestrians & challenging kiddy chicanes. Dyslexic fun for all.

Great fun walking through this historical foot tunnel. I took the stairs down and lift up obvs. On a practical level it’s great way to cross the Thames.
