A testy 'old-school' street market catering to the local community.... ? Dishearteningly lifeless and slipshod and from a visitor/tourist perspective, lacking coherence, selection and 'flavour.' Even the traders’ banter is muted here. Dullsville.
Such a shame that the market has declined as much as it has. It is not easy running a market and striking a balance between what you can book in for pitches and what the market needs to make it varied and useful. Don't think anyone is trying here anymore. Just as markets are becoming more popular Greenwich gives up. They need to stop thinking of markets as a place for cheap tat.
Apart from the fruit and veg stalls, there is nothing else of interest, for me. I don't need a watch mending, a pair of heavy duty work trousers, nor an inexpensive rug made in a Walthamstow industrial unit. I can imagine that years back, it would have been a more attractive draw, but that's all gone now, from my own observations. Now it's just a few stalls that could be just about anywhere you name.
Cool, from Fresh Fruit to Pots and Pans, Get some nice stuff.
