On Wadhurst clay the paths are very slippery when wet. Sadly Ash dieback is ruining the most successful trees, and uncontrolled squirrels have wrecked the oaks, maples and other trees. The result is expensively created scrub, and a disappointment to anyone who understands forestry. A 1-hectare wood adjacent to the south was established at nil net cost by planting Norway spruce and Douglas fir Christmas trees, and the gaps have been seeded with alder, willow, etc, while occasional remaining DF give structure and amenity.
