The first step toward this goal is the simplification of sample preparation and nucleic acid extractions. Our temperature-driven, single-tube process simplifies the number of steps for traditional DNA and RNA extractions, resulting in high-quality extracts with less risk of contamination, significantly reduced plastic waste, and no harsh chemicals - all in minutes, not hours. Our technologies are based on a unique portfolio of novel enzymes derived from extremophile microorganisms. Discovered over a period of 20 years by a team of scientists exploring the Ross Sea region of Antarctica, these microbial species thrive in some of the most extreme environments in the world. We derive enzymes from these organisms and use their naturally-occurring temperature activations to lyse cells and quickly extract nucleic acids ready for use. Gene therapy, molecular biology, pharmacology, forensics, and plant/insect pathology are just a few areas where MicroGEM is helping scientists produce faster analysis and results.
