A real educational gem just a stones throw from the main road with free parking (for upto maybe 8-10 cars on unmarked gravel pitches) for visitors right by the entrance gate. Upon entering the \site\, if only visiting for a \quick fix\ or are short of time, continue straight on the path and before it swings off to the right there is a short grassy path to your left, take that path and follow it around and you will soon be presented with Milom,s unique version of \Milom Henge\. This display is made all the more dramatic by the fact that you don't just have to see, feel and read about all the different rocks and their origins but you can also witness a real working quarry from a viewing area looking down into the mouth of it from a safe fenced off advantage point. When done re trace your steps and go... OR If your after a longer visit with a good walk and fantastic views then, upon entering the site, take your immediate right, up a track, towards huge pines and towering trees (this has a public footpath sign pointing towards it) and continue along an easy to follow forest path. It will lead you around the quarry with an array of wildlife to look out for and eventually take you upto a viewing Tower which from the top will get you some fantastic views of nearby mountains and fells and also the tarn and if your really lucky, even wild deer (yes even with the quarry noise these beautiful animals do live here), and when done simply follow the path all the way around and eventually back to the start and once there you can take the short trip to the rocks before you go. This circular walk can be a bit muddy in places when wet but overall the path is no match for a pair of good waking boots. Also my visit was a little grey and cloudy. But I bet on a nice day it is an all together different experience again. One that I will definatly be doing. Definatly recommend this.
Great place for a dog/family wander.Take a peak at the working quarry too.
Great for a nice, quiet walk. Various routes to take, small amount of parking available.
Did the 4 mile walk round the edge of the park. Some great view points, lovely forest, and the view over the quarry at the end!
