I have not had the same experience as many have posted on this site. I did not find Mr Welck receptive. He had very set opinions and muttered lots of hmm and yes and ahas like he was listening to me but it was clear he really wasn’t listening. I found Mr Welck to be very dismissive and in the end he left me feeling very upset with myself like I somehow caused my own problems. I recommend you always seek a second opinion as you will find a doctor that cares about you. Your gut is always right.

In October 2020 I had the opportunity of seeing Mr Matthew Welck as a private patient at the Spire Bushey Hospital. I had a fractured metatarsal and he was extremely good in counselling me as to whether I needed surgery or could have a supportive boot and await a response of natural healing of the fracture. He was very careful to explain that there was only a 50:50 chance of natural healing and that an operative intervention might be required but in view of the fact that there was a Covid crisis and that I was a vulnerable person he counselled on the course of support for the fracture and a “wait and see” course of action. This turned out to be completely appropriate as I was discharged four months later, to the date, with a complete clinical and radiographic recovery. I am very grateful to Mr Welck for his support and encouragement and the decision that was made at the outset was completely appropriate in these pandemic times. It is rare to find a surgeon who does not immediately jump to operate but who discusses the options with the patient in such a sympathetic manner. My grateful thanks to Mr Welck.

I was under the care of Mr Welck for few years and ended up having an ankle fusion due to post traumatic ankle arthritis following a fracture. Through the years he has advised me and listened to my fears and concerns about my ankle, and always gave me options. He was so patient with me on deciding whether to have an ankle fusion and now I had it, it is life changing and I still have movement which I never thought I would have. He is knowledgeable and friendly, and noticed he is very well respected by his peers. A great consultant and surgeon, I would definitely recommend Mr Welck.

I recently had an operation on my toe done by Mr Welck. I would happily recommend him due to his very professional manor and very easy to talk to. He also has my full trust which I feel is the upmost importance when you need an operation. I am very thankful he was my consultant and would absolutely if any more ops needed would ask for his help again. Big thank you to him. Mrs Joni Robinson-Tuckey

I met Mr Welck for the first time on 29th October 2020 with severe ankle pain. Mr Welck gave me the impression of being a very knowledgeable and professional consultant and probably more important to me caring. I had x-rays and ultrasound on my ankle so Mr Welck could diagnose almost instantly that I had seriously damaged my tendons in my left ankle but he put me for a CT scan to be totally confident in his Diagnosis that I had worn out my tendon on my ankle, so was advised to have a tendon transfer and front fusion and Heel fusion on foot. Due to Mr Welck’s utmost professionalism I took his advice and went for surgery on 16th November. Operation went well and I went home couple of days later with foot in cast. Had my cast off 5th January. And have been put in a walking boot for 3 weeks, have seen Mr Welck on 26 January and I’m doing so well that don’t need to have boot anymore. Due to this procedure can’t thank Mr Welck’s enough, so pleased I had it done and would highly recommend Mr Welck’s professionalism, skill and caring nature.

Mr Welck was a pleasure to deal with. He diagnosed my running injury extremely quickly (when previous consultants could not) was attentive and really went the extra mile when joining the dots with radiologists etc. Highly recommended

Mr Welck straightened my big toe, which had become deformed because of Charcot Marie Tooth. The operation, which involved a metal pin, and the aftercare were both excellent. I experienced no pain, and I now suffer far less pain with footwear as the deformity has been corrected.

I was recently under the care of Mr Welck due to a stress fracture in my foot. Mr Welck was extremely professional and attentive to my circumstances. If it hadn't been for his diligent care and attention to detail, I would probably be walking around on a broken foot! I am extremely grateful and would highly recommend seeing Mr Welck for any foot or ankle injuries.
