I was fortunate enough to be invited to an exclusive preview of Backstage Past - Access all Eras event at the Theatre Royal. We were lucky to have a very knowledgeable guide who gave us a very informative and interesting talk about the history of the theatre whilst showing us around all areas of the theatre which the public usually do not have access to. It also will encourage me to return to see some performances as previously I thought there were no seats without feeling enclosed in but due to this visit I can see that there are in fact a few seats for people who like me may not like enclosed spaces. Last night I with my wife and our friends attended the production of 'She Stoops to Conqueror' which was a delightfully performed comedy that we all enjoyed BUT what let our enjoyment down was the utter discomfort of the seats ( box L ) and the non existence of the air-conditioning that was installed in the refurbishment. This discomfort caused a number of people to leave early feeling unwell and I'm sure the next time consideration is given to making a booking we will all remember these negative points. When you are competing against the Apex and the cinema's the Theatre Royal is in these respects woeful. Where did they spend 5 million!!!!
