Had an amazing day at Watergate bay kicking off with a / hour surf lesson with Westcountry Surf School. Our instructor Luke was brilliant, really really knowledgable and supportive and had us all up on the boards by the end of the session. I ended up hiring a board and practicing on my own for the rest of the day. Would definitely recommend these guys for beginners sessions. Great fun!

Just completed the three day course and have to say its one of the best things I've done in a long time. I've wanted to learn for ages and never got around to it and by the end of the last day I was catching my own waves. Instructors are great. My first day and proper introduction was with Ollie who managed to coach myself and a couple of kids at the same time, whilst giving a proper introduction to the techniques and safety measures. We had the basics down after that and he was very professional and good company throughout. The second and third lessons where with Joe who then ironed out the kinks and got us out on our own. He would surf with us so we could copy his technique and swim far out to help us catch the bigger waves. He also got us into breathing exercises and warm ups and got you much more in the head space for surfing. The whole experience was great. The school is run by Joel who was great at communicating and super friendly. He was put surfing on his own whilst I was doing my final lesson, and helped me to catch the wave he had been waiting for so I could end on a high. Ended up riding it right in which was the best way to finish the course. Huge thanks to the whole team, couldn't recommend it enough.
Equipment 5 out of 5 All the equipment was very fresh and in perfect condition. Location 5 out of 5 Great beach, loads of places to grab a bite after the lesson. The school also has a cafe attached to it with nice coffee and great selection of smoothies. Instructors and attitude 10 out of 5 My boyfriend and I had a lesson with Joe. We did a bit of breathing exercises and some stretching to warm up. I’m pregnant at the moment. (Before anyone jumps down my throat yes, this was cleared by my midwife) Joe spent extra time teaching me techniques to make sure the experience was safe for me and the baby. Giving me tips how to improve he even got me to stand up on the board. I was taking it easy, so I spent the rest of the lesson on the beach while Joe took the rest of the guys out back to surf the bigger waves. He even sorted me out with his own dry robe so I wouldn’t get cold on the beach. Amazing service! Make sure you visit the guys! I’m definitely coming back on my next visit!
We had a lovely day with the team. They were all extremely friendly. Our group session with Luke S was great. Not only did he take us through the basic steps of surfing he also showed us great exercises to warm up. Joel was great, making it easy to book sessions and very easy to find the team. We will definitely be coming here again. The club also offers private sessions which are beneficial for those who want do things out of a group setting. Highly recommended experience for first time surfers.
My 15yr old son and 12yr old daughter had their first ever surf lesson today with Luke. They loved it; thought Luke was great (and funny!) and will remember the day as a highlight of their holiday. Booking was easy, communication was great and would definitely book again.
