A well organised visit during Covid social distancing measures. I'd contacted the shelter as mandatory to arrange an appointment to view an animal that had a bio online. There's plenty of off street parking in a free car park on the opposite side of the road. After hand sanitising we were escorted to the feline section of the shelter. The premises are clean and fresh, and animals have an excellent provision for space including those animals that are in the smallest sized accommodation! As it was, the cat I'd gone to see was not the cat that pulled my attention. Instead I adopted another cat entirely. Please note, nobody else had reserved an interest in the cat I adopted, policy of the animal shelter is to confirm someone's interest only if they have arranged an appointment. Had someone else arranged an appointment for later in the day to see that particular cat, I wouldn't have been allowed to even pet it. All my questions were satisfied by the ladies in the cat area. Usually adoptive families are subject to a home check, but due to social distancing other measures were taken including me providing photographs of the ground floor of my house, my postcode to check Google maps and a recent utility bill as well as completing pre-adoption forms. There was no pressure from staff to compete an adoption, as they are bound to the welfare of the animals rather than compromise everyone into a rush decision. This has been a really positive experience. If covid restrictions are still in place when you're thinking of visiting, please check the website for Pennine Pen CIO first and call them to arrange an appointment.
