Ormonde Square is one of three small pedestrian areas / gardens /squares along a footpath that runs through the houses along Archer Road. The path takes you from the local shopping precinct, "The Oval", in to Stevenage Town Centre. From the name of Archer Road the three Squares have been named after Epsom Derby Winners ridden by the Victorian champion Jockey Frederick J Archer. Archer was Champion Jockey from 1873 to 1886. Ormonde was the winner of the 1886 Epsom Derby in a time of 2:45.6. Owned by the 1st Duke of Westminster. Trained by John Porter. Ormonde Square has a red theme around the sign for the square and the brickwork around the raised flower beds.
