Oxford Castle has been a place of incarceration since 1071, continuing until the closure of Her Majesty's Prison Oxford in 1996. Today, visitors can learn about the real people and events from the site's turbulent past through fascinating displays and re-enactments. Other highlights include the chance to climb the Saxon St. George's Tower, Oxford's oldest building, and enjoy its stunning 360-degree views. Afterwards, descend deep underground into the 900-year-old crypt.

This place can only be visited by guided tour which is actually very good and lasts 50 mins. Thanks Jordan (Guide), you were very informative. You're taken up St George's Tower, the Crypt and the Prison block where you're regaled with stories of the misdeeds of several inmates. At the end of the tour you are allowed to spend time in the museum rooms which provide you with further insights into the history of the Castle and life in the Prison. The notorious so called "Black Panther" was imprisoned here whilst awaiting trial.

The castle is average but the tour guide lady is the true gem as she brought the history alive and you are the witness in the dramma back to hundreds years ago. The guide with Oxford university standard, with passion, with imaginations, with the beautiful narrative skill, she is the 5 stars of all. Most impressive girl!

Absolutely love the grounds here - full of history! Informative plaques that give you an idea of what used to happen years ago on these grounds. Tour is pricey but next time we visit we are definitely going to give it a go! A great place for all different kinds of groups - fun for the family (especially the gift shop). It’s worth checking out, even for a walk!

Great experience overall. We thought it will be bigger though. The queen was a great host and made this a unique experience. Not suitable for under 5yo for sure.

Really nice to see attractions like this open again. The guided tour was limited to 4 to 5 groups which I didn’t mind as it meant there was plenty of space to see and hear. The tour guide was really good, informative and a good story teller. The tour isn’t that long, which again wasn’t a bad thing as we had two young kids with us. Once the tour is over you’re then left to explore the exhibition at your own pace. Worth a visit if your in Oxford. Parts of it are over 1,000 years old and I was surprised that it only shut in 1996.

It was good but for free or maximum 2 not any more ,it wasn't air conditioner, it was hot and full of damp downstairs, doesn't have liftlet or full information, if you visited any prison in any country, you absolutely agree with me. Any way just some pictures from outside and some read articles about there is more than enough. But this is just my advice and fell free to take it or pass it.
