Only stopped here to take a couple of quick snaps, but it's a handy stop off if you want to walk down to the lake, or through the tunnel under the road to the mountains on the other side.

From here, you can walk along a stream to make your way down to the lake. Just be careful of the lambs along the way!
Paid-for car park in the middle of nowhere that you can only use coins for. There's a short circular walking route nearby that's quite nice, but it doesn't really justify the parking fee
There are nice walks around Thirlmere from here, and paths leading to Helvellyn and Glenridding. As a car park it's fine but isn't huge and you need to pay for it - that's fine, but the machine only takes coins. In 2018 it feels like it could accept other forms of payment. The car park on the other side of the road is larger and has the same access to the various walks. In addition, as of writing this, the ticket machine in the other car park is currently out of action, so that car park is free.
theres no clear path from here to get to Thirlmere
