Using an ordinance survey map, I was planning to cross the canal at this point. I looked for the bridge but couldn't find one, or the remains! The map clearly showed a crossing so I headed down the bank and was amazed to find this tunnel. Looking into the history of this, there are three similar tunnels on this section of canal. This one being the middle of the three and consists of three separate tunnels. The outer ones are possibly flood tunnels and the centre one is a footpath but was probably once a horse drawn tramway?
